Six Ridglan beagles have just arrived at the Northwoods Animal Shelter and their new journey has begun. For the first time they have a warm bed, soft pets, compassion, grass between their toes, and a safe space to heal.
This transitionary period is crucial.
Our team and volunteers will be working round the clock to ensure they are cared for in every way from medical care to socialization, potty training, and anything else they might need to prepare them for adoption.

When will the beagles be available for adoption?

We know many people are eager to welcome these dogs home, and we’re so grateful for that support. Right now, our priority is giving each of the six Ridglan beagles time to heal—physically and emotionally. They are undergoing veterinary care, being spayed/neutered, and slowly adjusting to a new environment. Once they’re ready, we will open the adoption application process and share updates on our website and social channels. We carry a critical responsibility during this process. We must prepare the dogs and also thoroughly screen and educate potential adopters (when the time is right) so each placement has the best chance of success.
Where did they come from?

Ridglan Farm is a large-scale breeding facility where beagles were raised and sold for research purposes.
Many of the dogs had little to no exposure to life outside of that horrific, inhumane setting. Now, they have the opportunity to experience fresh air, human kindness, and the everyday joys of simply being a dog.
What do these dogs need right now?

Right now, their greatest needs are time, patience, and specialized care. They are learning everything from walking on grass to interacting with people and other dogs. Our team is focused on building their confidence and helping them feel safe.
